How can law firm partners get a weekly matter pipeline brief with AI?
Each week, staff export the matter list and associates add a one-line status note per matter. A ChatGPT Skill set up with your brief template turns that into a one-page draft for the partners: deadlines in the next two weeks, matters waiting on the client, new instructions, unbilled work flagged by finance and anything an associate marked for partner attention. It lists matters with no update separately. A named lawyer checks the brief against the matter list before it goes to the partners. The brief summarises what staff recorded; it does not judge the merits of any matter.
Why partners lose sight of matters
In a growing Dubai firm, status lives in several places: the matter list, the diary, associates’ notes, email threads and the finance team’s billing report. A partner preparing for Monday’s meeting either reads all of it or asks around. Deadlines are found late, and matters waiting on a client go quiet for weeks. A brief Skill puts the same sections in the same order every week, from material your team already keeps, so the partners see what needs them first.

How it fits your firm
- Your template, with versions. The partners approve the brief template and the sections it contains. When they change it, the new version is approved and the Skill is refreshed; the old version is withdrawn.
- The same notes, two uses. The status notes associates write for the brief can also feed plain-language client updates, so a note written once is used twice.
- Your diary stays the record. The brief is a weekly summary. Deadlines continue to be managed in the firm’s diary or case management system, by the people responsible for them.
Guardrails
- A named lawyer checks every brief against the matter list before it reaches the partners. AI drafts can leave out a matter, copy a date wrongly, attach a note to the wrong matter or add a detail that is not in the notes. Instructions reduce this risk but do not guarantee a complete or correct brief.
- The brief is not a deadline system and does not replace your diary. A date missing from the notes will be missing from the brief, so it is never the only reminder of a deadline.
- AI does not assess the merits of a matter, predict outcomes or give advice. Those stay with the lawyers on the matter.
- Matter information is confidential. Start with synthetic or anonymised examples, as above. Real matter data needs the firm’s approved ChatGPT product and configuration, with access limited to the right people, a retention setting the firm has chosen and your professional duties applied. An approved workspace alone does not make it safe. See whether ChatGPT is safe for confidential client information.
- Manual input is the default. Staff paste the matter list, notes and billing report. Reading from your case management, diary or billing system directly needs a separately agreed, configured and tested integration.
A pipeline brief can start as a single Skill for AED 97, built on your own template. The matter pipeline brief is part of RUN at AED 15,000, for firms with several practice groups that also want case chronologies and approval rules. See the pricing page and what AI costs for a law firm.
Common questions
Can AI produce a weekly matter report for partners?
Yes, as a draft. From the matter list and associates' status notes it drafts a one-page brief in your template. A named lawyer checks it before it goes to the partners.
Does it replace our diary or deadline system?
No. The brief summarises what staff recorded. Deadlines stay in your diary or case management system, managed by the people responsible for them.
What happens to matters with no update?
The brief lists them separately under no update received, so the practice manager can follow up instead of the matter being silently left out.
Does it connect to our case management system?
Not by default. Staff paste the matter list and notes. Reading from case management, diary or billing systems needs a separately agreed, configured and tested integration.
